Zing Füh emerges from Aku Zeliang’s exploration of indigenous Naga basketry as a contemporary collectible design. Inspired by the Khang, a traditional carrying basket used by indigenous communities across Northeast India, the work transforms a familiar vernacular form into a sculptural vessel that moves beyond utility and ethnographic association.

The basket is woven from Lei bamboo, a species native to Eastern Nagaland valued for its strength and flexibility. Harvesting, curing and hand-splitting the bamboo into fine slivers before weaving begins relies heavily on traditional wisdom. The diamond weave draws from a visual language common to many indigenous communities in the region. Naturally dyed black bamboo is paired with a mirror-polished stainless steel frame and spikes, bringing together and merging bamboo weaving from Northeast India with precision metal craftsmanship from North India. While the basket retains the clarity of its traditional form, the metal interventions give it an entirely new presence as a contemporary collectible.
